Prabowo Affirms: Red and White Cooperatives Belong to the People

President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized the importance of the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives in improving people’s welfare during the official launch of the program in Bentangan Village, Klaten. He warned against past mistakes, such as the perception of KUD cooperatives as ‘Chairman Profits First’ during the New Order era. Prabowo highlighted the use of technology and transparency in the new cooperative system to ensure financial flows can be monitored and audited in real-time. He called for strict oversight from all stakeholders to prevent any form of abuse and stated that the cooperatives belong to the people, with village heads playing a key role in supervision. Prabowo used a metaphor of unity to illustrate the strength of cooperation, emphasizing the need to unite the weak into a strong economic force. He believes that this movement will revitalize Indonesia’s rural economy by redirecting resources from cities to villages, promoting economic growth at the local level.
