Konawe – AS (26), a man in Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi, cruelly assaulted his future wife with the initials IU (25). The assault committed by AS to his future wife, by hitting and then slamming her.

The Chief of Unaaha Police, Ipda Edy Rambulangi, said that the criminal act of assault was carried out by the perpetrator due to jealousy towards the future wife who was suspected of having an affair. “The motive for the assault is jealousy. From there the assault occurred,” said Ipda Edy, when confirmed on Tuesday, December 26, 2023.

He explained that the act of violence was captured on a surveillance camera (CCTV) which showed the victim and the perpetrator initially just sitting casually at a car wash. However, not long after, the perpetrator then hit the victim’s left thigh and ear using his hand. “The act of assault was recorded by a camera. At first, they were just chatting and then the punching occurred,” he said.

Edy revealed that the victim who was assaulted tried to get away and defend himself by hitting back. However, the perpetrator, who was getting angrier, then pulled and slammed the victim to the ground and then hit her again using his hand. Residents who were on the scene immediately broke up the altercation. “The victim fought back but was hit again until she fell. Fortunately, the residents immediately broke it up,” he said.

Edy revealed that the act of violence was then reported by the victim to the police. In the report, the act of violence occurred at a car wash in the Tumpas Village, Unaaha District. “A police report has been made regarding the criminal act of assault. The scene was at a car wash,” said Ipda Edy.

In the report, the victim and the perpetrator initially only discussed the clothes that would be used for the engagement process. But not long after, they chatted, suddenly the victim received a call from someone. At that time, the victim distanced herself from the perpetrator when she received the call. This made the perpetrator suspicious that the victim was talking to her lover. “At first, they were only discussing their wedding preparations. But at that time, the victim received a call and distanced herself, so it made the perpetrator jealous. The initial examination result was that the victim answered a call from a man,” he explained.

The police, according to Edy, attempted mediation after receiving a report from the victim. However, the mediation was rejected and requested that the perpetrator or her future husband be immediately arrested. “The report was received and we tried to mediate. But there was no agreement. So this perpetrator was arrested by us last Saturday,” he said.

Currently, according to Edy, the perpetrator has been detained and questioned. Furthermore, Edy admitted that he would take the mediation route again if both parties wanted to agree to make peace. But if it is still rejected, then they will take the legal route.
