Proven: Free Nutritious Meals Boost Children’s Concentration

The Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program, aimed at providing children with healthy meals, has been found to have a positive impact on their concentration levels. Research conducted in Aceh and supported by Expert Council Member of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Ikeu Tanziha, shows that students who received Free Nutritious Meals exhibited improved concentration, leading to enhanced educational outcomes and increased learning motivation.

In another study conducted by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), similar results were observed among students in areas like Bogor and Papua, especially those who skipped breakfast. For instance, at the State Vocational School 6 (SMK Negeri 6) in Medan, the MBG Program significantly increased attendance motivation and classroom concentration.

Ikeu highlighted the importance of concentration in cognitive development and noted that various factors, such as learning motivation, nutritional intake, psychological well-being, and physiological conditions, can influence a child’s ability to concentrate. Key nutrients like proteins, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids are essential for brain development and cognitive function, particularly memory.

The MBG Program aims to not only support physical growth but also enhance cognitive potential and intelligence by addressing children’s nutritional needs. Despite challenges like unhealthy consumption habits and limited access to nutritious foods in certain regions, Ikeu emphasized the importance of collective efforts in ensuring the success of the Free Nutritious Meals Program. She believes that this initiative will bring long-term benefits for future generations and society as a whole.
